What is the Safe Place Initiative?
Safe Place is an initiative which provides support in a range of settings for people requiring
information on domestic violence. It is estimated that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will
experience domestic violence during their lifetime. In most businesses, churches and schools
it is likely that customers, service users and staff will include victims of domestic violence on
a daily basis.
As a Safe Place organisation Lurgan Model Integrated Primary School & Nursery will:
• Support the Safe Place Campaign Pledge: never to commit, condone or stay silent
about domestic violence.
• Provide a safe place for victims of domestic violence to confidentially access
information.
• Acknowledge domestic violence is a problem that impacts on all of us as a society,
and will be prepared to play our part in supporting victims and state clearly to
perpetrators that we will not tolerate abuse in our community.
Thank you all so much for raising a fantastic £450 for the Cancer Fund for Children.
We held a special assembly to present the cheque.
Well done to Miss Ganley & Francine for organising our fundraising Halloween disco.
Big well done to parents and pupils who took part in our recent workshop, funded through
Neighbourhood Renewal.
Thank you Mrs Spence for organising and Carlos for delivering this. Great craic & lots of
learning.
The theme for this year’s Anti-Bullying Week was ‘Choose Respect’
We held an Anti-Bullying assembly and the children completed a range of age-appropriate
activities in class.
As always in Lurgan Model Integrated, Odd Sock Day was a firm favourite.
Pupils in Years 4, 5, 6 & 7 took part in class Anti-Bullying workshops
On Remembrance Sunday, two year 7’s represented the school at the Act of Remembrance
in Lurgan Town Centre. This is something that our school has always done.
Year 7 have also been involved in a cross-community project looking at historical figures
from Lurgan, facilitated by Lurgan Townscape Heritage.
Field Marshal John Dill was the first person studied. Four Year 7’s represented the school
at an unveiling of a plaque to commemorate this famous son of Lurgan who died in 1944
and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
On Friday 8th November our Gaelic football team travelled to Lismore College to
participate in a local tournament.
The boys and girls played splendidly, giving a great account of themselves and
representing the school so well. They reached the final of the plate competition.
We are very proud of their efforts. Gaelic games continue to flourish in our school.
Big thanks to Mr O’Hagan and all those representing the school.
