Making and experimenting with chalk paint

Our Year 2 children had great fun exploring creativity and outdoor learning by making their own chalk paint and mud paint. Using simple materials, they crushed chalk into a fine powder before mixing it carefully with water to create bright, colourful paints. They also combined mud with water, experimenting with different textures and consistencies to make natural, earthy paint. The children worked collaboratively, developing their fine motor skills and problem-solving as they adjusted mixtures to achieve the best results.

This activity supported their learning in the following ways:

Socially - working together and sharing ideas, taking turns and sharing resources

Physically - through hands-on mixing and painting, developing fine and gross motor skills

Intellectually - exploring cause and effect, exploring consistencies

Communication and Language - expressing themselves through their art work, talking about what they were doing with their peers

Emotionally - building confidence and pride in their creations.
