Learning Support

When children are learning to read, it is very important they can hear sounds in words, match sounds to the corresponding letter and say these sounds correctly.

The link below will help you to teach your child the pure sounds they need for reading and writing. It will also help you to understand how we teach reading and writing in school.

These sounds are called phonics and are one of the foundation stones of everything we do in literacy. It is very important that children are able to recognise and read these sounds properly

The vowel sounds are the most difficult sounds for your child to learn. Print off (or ask Mrs Spence for) a copy of the vowel sounds.

Practice these vowel sounds as often as possible.

It is very common for children to mix up 'e' as in egg with 'i' as in ink

and 'o' as in octopus with 'u' as in umbrella
